Things to do at Butterflowers

On-site:
Just a ten minute walk away is Butterflowers’ sister site; Port Haverigg Holiday Village, which has its own freshwater lake. Here you can fish either from the lake (which is stocked with rainbow trout,) or from the sea wall.

The watersports centre has its own slalom course and offers lessons in waterskiing, wakeboarding and the latest craze of wakeskating. You can also launch your own boats, dinghies and windsurfers.

Part of the lagoon is owned by the RSPB and several pathways take you through different habitats leading to the hide. From here, you can watch Cumbria’s only breeding sandwich tern colony. Hodbarrow’s wildlife rich coastal lagoon is the largest stretch of coastal open water in north-west England. The reserve attracts little terns, warblers, great created grebes, red breasted mergansers and wildfowl such as wigeons. The large number of birds also attracts the attention of local birds of prey, including the peregrine falcon.
